Fitness from Within offers the genuine Pilates Method and is one of the few studios that offer these services in conjunction with the Gyrotonic method in the Bayside Area. The Principal Instructor, Sakis Michelis is trained as a qualified Pilates instructor with the Australian Pilates Method Association (APMA) and was previously a well known dancer with Australia’s prestigious Ballet Companies including the Australian Ballet, the Queensland Ballet, the West Australian Ballet and The Australian Dance Theatre (ADT).

Sakis has undergone extensive training, has a caring approach to teaching and can cater for all ages and needs.

Pilates exercises work several muscle groups at the same time, stretching one while strengthening another. It is one of the few exercise methods that can be safely undertaken during recovery and rehabilitation from injury and is an excellent discipline for maintaining health and fitness during pregnancy.

What Is Pilates

Created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's, the Pilates exercise method helps exponents achieve optimum balance between mind and body.

In its 80 years, largely through his pioneering work, the system has become a favoured method of integrated exercise, particularly among elite athletes and performers, and those recovering from injury.

Joseph’s astute observations of body movement quickly detected that, compared to animals, humans make less than optimum use of their physical capacity.

Pilates is based on a range of more than 500 exercises, often in conjunction with specially designed equipment. It uses the musculo-skeletal make-up of the human body as it’s platform, and blends breathing regulation and mental exercise into a program designed to deliver holistic benefits.

The method teaches participants greater awareness of the form and function of their bodies. As a result, the discipline can be applied throughout daily life for boosted strength, stability and mobility.

Because it combines a complex series of exercises involving multiple parts of the body, qualified instruction is essential.Pilates is an exercise system that benefits people at every level of fitness and at every stage of life. WHAT IS GYROTONIC® METHODOLOGY?

The fundamentals of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® consist of a totally new exercise system, using GYROKINESIS® exercises as the basis to exercise the musculature while mobilizing and articulating the joints.

The uniqueness of the System is that it simultaneously stretches and strengthens your body with minimal effort, while increasing range of motion and developing coordination.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System was conceived by Juliu Horvath using key principles of gymnastics, swimming, ballet, and yoga through which major muscle groups are worked in an integrated manner. This System is supported by exercise equipment, specifically designed around the human body to allow total freedom in movement, no restriction to speed or versatility, and enhances coordination, strength and flexibility.

Unlike most conventional exercise machines where linear or isolated movements are performed, the patented Gyrotonic Expansion System emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression. Currently, the Gyrotonic Expansion System is used worldwide delivering great success with dancers, athletes, rehabilitation facilities, as well as general conditioning for people of all walks of life, age and health.

Pilates Studio

Sessions at Fitness from Within are conducted in semi-private classes of no more than four, or one-on-one if you prefer. Clients start at their own level and progress at their own pace.

The exercises are specifically tailored for each person based on their requirements, health and fitness goals and the presence of any prior injuries.

Two or three sessions per week will obtian the best results, but even a weekly class will provide valuable benefits.
